Spending & The Obama Administration

Since President Obama took office, policy initiatives coming out of Congress and the White House have taken a dramatic shift away from the middle, moving America closer toward a European style of government and further away from the ideals of our Founding Fathers.

With that in mind, I want to share with you a few of the ways in which I have been fighting this move away from commonsense and representing you in our nation’s capital.

First and foremost, I stood strong against the healthcare bill President Obama and Speaker Pelosi forced upon the American people earlier this year.

Make no mistake about it, their vision of a government-run health care system is not new, unique, or demanded by the American people. It is an old, tired, and thoroughly disproven idea that will cost TRILLIONS, eliminate services, and lead to healthcare rationing. I was proud to cast a vote against the bill and am supporting its repeal.

Beyond my strong opposition to a government-run health care system, you may be interested to know:

  • I voted against the Democrats’ $4 TRILLION budget plan for 2010.
  • I voted against the Democrats’ $787 BILLION stimulus program.
  • I voted against the Democrats’ $500 BILLION omnibus funding bill.
  • I voted against the release of $350 BILLION in bailout funds.
  • I am a cosponsor of the Balanced Budget Amendment and legislation to sunset all federal programs.

But those aren’t the only ways in which I am fighting for commonsense conservative values.

I voted against the Democrats’ effort to pass federal hate crimes legislation, stood strong in opposition to their energy tax increases, and am supporting an extension of the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003.

I have called for robust reform of entitlement programs, cosponsored legislation to protect the secret ballot in union elections, signed onto legislation making permanent the ban on the Fairness Doctrine, sought a permanent fix to the death tax, and opposed efforts to bring foreign terrorists to our nation’s shores.

Finally, I have a 100 percent rating from National Right to Life and straight A ratings from the National Rifle Association. I was also recently recognized for my conservative voting record by the American Conservative Union.

These are just a few of the ways in which I have been fighting this Administration’s attempt to move our country dramatically to the left.
