Boise, ID – Congressman Mike Simpson released the following statement after winning the Republican Party’s nomination for Idaho’s 2nd Congressional District seat:

“I am honored and humbled by the support I received today. Our nation faces serious challenges and I look forward to working on behalf of Idaho in order to lessen the federal government’s intrusion in our daily lives. Not only do we need to maintain the Republican majority in the U.S. House, but we must work to create that same majority in the U.S. Senate and make sure that Mitt Romney is our next President of the United States. I look forward the upcoming November election and the Republican majorities in Congress that will help set our nation on a course toward deficit reduction and economic recovery.”

Boise, ID – The National Rifle Association (NRA) recently released its grades and endorsements, and Mike Simpson, Republican from Idaho’s 2nd Congressional District, received the highest rating, an A+.

“I’m honored to receive the highest rating from the esteemed NRA,” said Simpson. “Our Founders knew that protecting the right of citizens to keep and bear arms was necessary to build a free democracy, and I have long been a strong supporter of the Second Amendment to the Constitution. During my time in Congress I have made it clear that I will not support any legislation that bans the ownership of firearms, taxes gun ownership, or requires a waiting period to purchase a firearm. I strongly believe that hunting and fishing are not only important forms of recreation but crucial to the way of life we enjoy in Idaho, and I am working to ensure that Idahoans continue to have access to these activities on public lands.”

An A+ rating means that not only did the legislator have an excellent voting record on all critical NRA issues, but he also made a vigorous effort to promote and defend the 2nd Amendment.

The NRA-PVF is non-partisan in issuing its candidate grades and endorsements. They do not base decisions on a candidate’s party affiliation, but rather on his or her record on Second Amendment issues. The NRA is a single issue organization. The only issues on which we evaluate candidates seeking elected office are gun-related issues. To view the scorecard of the National Rifle Association visit their grades and endorsements website at http://www.nrapvf.org/grades-endorsements/2012/Idaho.aspx

BOISE – ID The Simpson for Congress campaign has officially filed their yearend report and are pleased to announce a banner year. The campaign has raised over $600,000 with over 1000 contributions. With a majority of the contributions coming from Idahoans and over 150 new Idaho donors, the campaign is on pace to raise over a million dollars in the 2012 election cycle.

“The continued support I receive from Idahoans has been absolutely humbling and I am very pleased to see my actions in Congress being endorsed with overwhelming support,” Congressman Simpson said. “Many tough decisions still remain and the fight to keep our country and Idaho prosperous for our children is more important than ever before.”

“Congressman Simpson is someone that Idahoans can trust and knows how to get the job done. During these trying times, Congressman Simpson has been an outspoken voice of conservative common sense that this country needs,” Mitch Watkins from Twin Falls said.

Mitch Watkins is the President of Watkins Distributing located in Twin Falls. Mitch also serves as Region Finance Chair for the Simpson for Congress campaign.
