My Conservative Record

By Congressman Mike Simpson

I want to take this opportunity to thank the people of Idaho’s Second Congressional District for the support they’ve given me during my time in Congress and ask them for their vote again on May 20.

During my time in Congress, I’ve always worked to put the needs of the people of Idaho first.  I’ve worked hard to make sure my voting record reflects the values of Idahoans and places their concerns above those of special interests.

I’ve worked hard to support Idaho’s farmers and ranchers because I know how important agriculture is to our state’s economy, and I appreciate the significance agriculture lends to our Western way of life.

To protect our Western way of life, I pushed hard to delist wolves and block the Obama Administration’s attempt to designate more of the West as Wildlands.  I pushed back against the EPA – cutting its budget by $2 billion and fighting its attempts to regulate state waters.  I fought attempts to list sage grouse as endangered and worked to expose the abuses of extremist lawsuits against ranchers.

I’m also proud to have the endorsement of the National Rifle Association and their highest rating – A+.  I’ve been an ardent supporter of gun rights during my time in Congress and a champion of Idaho’s sportsmen and women.

I’ve also been a champion of lower taxes and limited government. Knowing that our economy thrives when government gets out of the way, I’ve been fighting to end Obamacare, voting over 50 times to get rid of it.  Due to my work to lower taxes and reduce regulations, I’ve received the endorsements of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Businesses.

I’m also proud of my work to reduce federal spending and achieve balanced federal budget. I’ve personally authored billions of dollars in cuts to the federal budget and eliminated dozens of federal programs. I’m a strong supporter of a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and have strongly supported Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget proposals in committee and on the House floor.

At the same time, I’ve worked hard to make sure that Idaho’s important federal assets remain vibrant. I’ve increased funding at Idaho National Laboratory and helped to create hundreds of new jobs. I’ve fought to protect Mountain Home Air Force Base and Gowen Field. Also, I’ve been among the strongest supporters in Congress for Idaho’s rightful place in the PILT and Secure Rural Schools programs.

These accomplishments demonstrate my proven, conservative record of delivering results for the people of Idaho. I believe my record reflects the views and concerns of the people of Idaho and why I am asking for your vote on May 20.
